First keyboard for typing was invented in 1714 – more than 300 years ago. Since then the keyboards have gone a long way from mechanical typewriters to sophisticated ergonomic keyboards used to type and communicate via computers.
Typing has become an essential skill in the informational era – the digital world which we live in.
Whether a student is working on a homework assignment on a computer, a software engineer is writing a program, or a CEO is crafting a pitch for investors – typing is used as a ubiquitous way of crafting messages and recording ideas on a computer.
However typing activity is not natural, and it requires additional efforts before a person can master any level of fluency at typing.
The most efficient, globally recognized typing technique is known as touch typing. A person capable of touch typing can type using all fingers, without the need of seeing the keyboard. Touch typing is mastered through development of typing motion reflexes, synchronized with the brain areas involved in speech and other verbal activities.

It is commonly believed that mastering touch typing requires practice, consistency and time. However, in our fast paced world it might be beneficial to develop a straightforward, and more flexible approach.
Development of an alternative, time- and cost-efficient way of mastering touch typing – is the commitment of the ViaTyping research laboratory.
The ViaTyping research and development lab is committed to developing a technology, which would allow learning touch-typing without instructions and practices.
We believe, it is absolutely possible to master touch-typing intuitively.
But why did we decide to change the way people are learning typing?
At first it may seem, that typing is nothing than just pressing on the keys of a keyboard. However, without special training on touch typing – a special technique for typing with all our fingers, it is difficult to stay 100 % focused on the context of our typing and to be efficient enough.
We have discovered, that touch typing can make people happier. We have also discussed the mechanisms of happiness in the following post : “How typing affects happiness ”
